Autonomous Braking on New Cars will be required in the EU

Preventing car accidents has been a long time goal for many people. To achieve this goal you will be required to take baby steps until you’ve reached it, like any other goal. But today, another baby step has been checked off the list, as a new EU legislation came out. This legislation requires that all vehicles produced by 2014, will have an on-board autonomous emergency braking system (AEB). An AEB automatically hits the breaks of your car if you come to close to an object (car, pedestrian, etc…). By doing so, the EU will be saving 8,000 lives (27% of traffic accidents) and 6.05-9.7 billion dollars each year.  You can also read the full report here (PDF).
